In celebration of DeviantArt's 14th Anniversary, i will be sharing my journey so far on this wonderful site.
I first got to know about DeviantArt around 10 years ago but i never really got serious with the site till i took up a media design course 5 years ago.
Through the course, i became exposed to the world of digital art and set my sight on the career of a concept artist. It wasn't until around 3 years ago
that i started to explore the Deviant website and found out that it was actually a really good place to interact and share your art with the entire world.
The art piece below titled "Soul Tower" was one of the very first digital painting's which i did. Yes i know it's really bad and sometimes i look back at myself
and wonder what the heck was i thinking when i painted this piece of art. Needless to say, it didn't get much fav's or comments which i was totally fine with.
I never joined DeviantArt with the intention of being famous or whatsoever. I just wanted to share my art with the world and get to know more people
that were also interested in art.
I knew that if i wanted to become a concept artist, i had to strive to be the best. From that moment when i made my first
contribution to the DeviantArt community, i decided that i had to put in alot of hardwork to become good at what i loved doing.
I did many painting's in black and white such as the one below at the beginning to work on my understanding of values.
My understanding of values got better and better, but i realized that i couldn't progress further if i were to continue painting in black and white values only.
So i decided to step out of my comfort zone and paint something in color. "Year 821 A.D" was one of those painting's that i would say turned out quite well
at the time i painted it. There was some really nice feedback on the piece and i felt like my hard work had paid off.
With the confidence that i had garnered, i continued to work hard, painting and drawing almost everyday if i could. From my gallery, you could easily tell i was interested
in Environment's. Back then, i was inspired by guys like Blinck (Now known as JJCanvas), Kalen Chock (K04sk), Robin Olausson (eWKn), Jonas De Ro (JonasDeRo) and many
others which would probably be too long to name all of the incredible guys around. On the 23rd of March 2012, i received my first Daily Deviation award for the piece
"Forest Yonder". I had literally no idea what a DD meant, but i knew it was a huge achievement as hundred's of fav's and comments came flooding in to my inbox. I knew
that my hard work had paid off. But i didn't want to stop there. I wanted to get better and better and to grow together with the DeviantArt community.
On the 7th of October 2012, i received my second Daily Deviation for the piece titled "Jungle Paradise". I was really surprised at this DD because it was a practice piece i had
started out by trying to paint with colors at the start instead of starting with greyscale values. I was really humbled by all the kind comments and support from the Deviant
community. It also drove me to work harder and harder.
Then i received my third Daily Deviation for the piece "Neon Tokyo Alley". I knew that this was a confirmation of the hard work and effort i had put in over the years to get to where i am.
August 7th 2014, looking back, i definitely come a long way, and i still have a long road ahead to journey on. There's so much to learn everyday and i wont stop till i become one of the best
in the design industry. Without DeviantArt and all of the awesome people i have met along the way through this incredible site, i wouldn't be what i am today. I would like to wish DeviantArt
a very happy 14th birthday, and i look forward to many more years to come
Your's Sincerely,
Narandel
